The Reading Superhero is the signature ambassador of The Reading Engagement. Wearing the official superhero costume, this performer inspires children to become Book Champions by promoting literacy through excitement, imagination, encouragement, and memorable interactions. The Reading Superhero appears at birthday parties, literacy events, schools, libraries, festivals, and community celebrations.

This team member transforms books into unforgettable adventures through expressive storytelling, music, movement, imaginative play, and meaningful interactions with children ages birth to five. The Activity Engager brings stories to life through hands-on learning experiences. They lead creative art projects, sensory exploration, STEM activities, movement stations, and imaginative play that reinforce the featured story while encouraging creativity, curiosity, and confidence.

  • Greet children with enthusiasm and positivity.
  • Encourage reading through interactive activities.
  • Participate in story time performances.
  • Lead superhero-themed games and movement activities.
  • Take photos with guests.
  • Present birthday recognitions.
  • Maintain character throughout appearances.
  • Model kindness, confidence, courage, and respect.
  • Promote literacy in fun and engaging ways.

Qualifications

  • Comfortable performing in costume.
  • Outgoing personality.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience entertaining children preferred.
  • Ability to stay in character throughout events.

  • Lead literacy-focused songs, fingerplays, dances, and group games.
  • Encourage participation from children and caregivers.
  • Facilitate age-appropriate discussions before and after stories.
  • Maintain positive classroom management techniques.
  • Set up and clean up all storytelling materials.
  • Arrive early for every event fully prepared.
  • Build positive relationships with schools, libraries, and families.
  • Represent The Reading Engagement professionally at all times.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young children.
  • Passion for children's literature.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • High energy and enthusiasm.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Weekend availability.
